Last year I posted about the long list for the 2012 Carnegie Medal (read my post here). I had planned on making a concerted effort to read more of the books on the long list before the shortlist was announced but I have to admit I kind of failed at that. Anyway, today the press release for the 2012 Shortlist has been released so I thought I'd share the list with you here.

I've only read 3 of the 8 books on the shortlist but they were all fantastic books and would be worthy winners. I've seen great reviews for all of the other books too though so really must try to read them.
Since I don't read or review books for younger children I haven't included the shortlist for the Kate Greenaway medal in this post. If you are interested in seeing the list you can find it here.
What do you think of the shortlist? Have you read any of these books? Which one would you pick as the winner if you had to make a choice? I'm pleased to see that Ruta Septys' Between Shades of Grey made the shortlist as that was the book I'd tipped as winner from the long list (based on the books I'd read)
