Review: A Night of Southern Comfort - Robin Covington

One night of passion...

Detective Jackson Cantrell never imagined that one night with an irresistible stranger would turn his life upside down. He’s spent years living in the shadows, but Dr. Michaela Roarke awakened a passion inside him he’d buried years ago.

He never expected the woman would turn out to be the governor’s daughter…and his next assignment. The governor blackmails Jackson to secretly watch over Michaela and protect her from a stalker, or kiss his dream job at the FBI good-bye. Swearing to keep things strictly professional, Jackson moves in with Michaela. Too bad his heart can’t keep the same promise.

But when the stalker’s attacks quickly escalate beyond mere photographs to bodily harm, Jackson must race to save Michaela’s life. And he’ll have to figure out how to keep her once she discovers his lie.

Review:
All her life Michaela has been controlled by a father who has just used his family to advance his political career. What she wants more than anything is to be allowed to live her life in peace and keep out of the spotlight and it looks like her father has finally given into her demands. Her night out to celebrate takes a heated turn for the better when she spots Jackson in the hotel bar. Promising herself just one night of scorching hot sex before settling into her new quiet life in a small town Michaela finds that Jackson more than fulfils her every fantasy. A month on and she never expected to see him again but when threats are made against her life Jackson happens to be the man her father hires to protect her. Both are wary of a relationship but neither can deny the attraction they feel. Can Jackson keep her safe without losing his heart in the process?

I was completely hooked into this story from the minute I started reading and I didn't want to put it down until I'd devoured every page. A Night of Southern Comfort is a fantastic debut and has added Robin Covington to my list of must read authors. This author certainly knows how to create scorching chemistry between her characters and this one steamy read right from the very beginning. Michaela and Jackson practically melted my kindle from the moment they met but what I loved most was seeing them develop feelings for each other as they got to know each other better.

Jackson was hot (and oh sooooo sexy *fans self*), caring, protective and absolutely smitten with Michaela from pretty much the moment they met - even if he wouldn't admit it to himself! It was quite funny watching his jealousy when he thought one of his friends was making a move on her. Talking of his friends I absolutely loved all of the boys - Jackson, Lucky, Teague and Beckett - and the banter between them. I really want to read all of their stories and I was incredibly excited to find out that Robin is already writing Lucky's book. Michaela was one of those characters who is extremely easy to like, her life has been made miserable by her good for nothing father but I admired the way she stood up to him. She copes well considering she is being stalked but that mainly because she is convinced it is a trick her father has come up with to get her to come home. She has finally had a taste of freedom though and won't let anything get in her way of continuing to live the life that she wants.

If I have one minor complaint it would be that I'd guessed who the stalker was quite early on. I hoped I'd be proved wrong but in the end I wasn't which was a little disappointing. Having said that I still loved the story - I loved the characters, I loved not knowing what the stalker would do next and I definitely loved every second that Michaela and Jackson spent together. I would happily recommend this to any contemporary romance fan looking for scorching love scenes and a relationship worth believing in. I know I'll automatically be buying whatever story Robin Covington releases next!
