Review: The Secret of Ella and Micha - Jessica Sorensen

'The girl he thinks he loves needs to disappear. I don't want tonight to be irreversible, so I pull away, breathing him in one last time.'

Ella and Micha have been best friends since childhood, until one tragic night shatters their relationship and Ella decides to leave everything behind to start a new life at college, including Micha.

But now it's summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home. Ella fears everything she worked so hard to bury might resurface, especially with Micha living right next door. Micha is sexy, smart, confident, and can get under Ella's skin like no one else. And he's determined to win back the girl he lost, no matter what it takes.

Review:
Ella has been to hell and back in the last few years and it has left her emotionally vulnerable and struggling to cope. She thinks that the only way to deal with the past is to push it to the back of her memory and forget it ever happened and to help her do that she has walked away from everything and everyone she knows to start her life over again. Ella didn't just leave her family and friends when she started college though, she also tried to leave herself behind. She is no longer the feisty girl she was growing up, the adrenaline junkie with a smart mouth that often got her into trouble, now she is much quieter and keeps her head down trying to avoid spending much time with others. Having to return home for the summer Ella is forced to face Micha, her best friend, the boy she loved and the boy whose heart she broke when she left without a word. Can she keep her mask in place when she is confronted by everything she left behind?

This is the first book I've read by Jessica Sorensen but I'm definitely a new fan and I can't wait to start reading the rest of her work. She has a way of creating characters who you can relate to, ones who could be your best friend and that you can't help but route for. Ella has made mistakes but you can easily understand why she has behaved the way she did and it is obvious that she never meant to hurt anyone with her actions. She has been through so much that she just doesn't know how else to deal with the pain and I don't think many people would cope better in her situation. She has such strong feelings for Micha that they completely overwhelm her, she just can't deal with them on top of everything else she has going on which is why she walked away from him. It hasn't been easy for her to create a whole new persona and when she returns home it is even harder for her to keep it in place. She needs to learn how to accept the person she really is and understand that she shouldn't be ashamed of that or try to hide herself behind a false identity.

If anyone can get through to the girl hidden deep inside it is Micha, the person who has known her forever and who already knows all of her secrets. Micha never gave up looking for Ella, she is his best friend, the person he loves more than anything and it devastated him when she disappeared. He knew she was in a bad place but never would have guessed that she would walk away from him like that. Now that she is back in town he is determined to show her how good they could be together and make sure that she is never able to walk away from him again. I have to say I loved Micha, he has his own issues to deal with and my heart broke for both him and Ella but you just know that they can get through anything if they are together. They have such a strong bond of friendship and know each other inside out, there is no need for either of them to hide anything from the other because they will always be accepted for who they are.

The Secrets of Ella and Micha is a really sweet romance with the perfect amount of chemistry and sexual tension for the new adult market. This story will appeal to older teens as well as to adults and I'm sure most women will fall for sexy bad boy and future rock star Micha! I'm excited to know we have more to come from this couple and I'll definitely be looking forward to more from Jessica Sorensen in the future.
