Patrick Twycross has always been lonely. That doesn't mean he's happy when Simon Torquill, his best friend and bosom companion, shows up and informs him that he'll be escorting a local Duchess to a royal celebration.
He's even less happy when he finds out the celebration is in honor of Dianda Lorden's engagement.
This is the January Patreon story, and the next of our Patrick and Dianda adventures.

Review:
Write in Water is a short story from Patrick's point of view that can be purchased from Seanan McGuire's Patreon Page. She posts a short story there every month, some standalone but a lot linked to her October Daye series, and you can receive them for as little as $1 each (there are other perks available for higher amounts but $1 is the minimum). We've had quite a few October Daye world stories now both from Patrick and Tybalt's points of view, these stories aren't essential reading but they all give us background information into some of our favourite characters and I'd highly recommend them to fans of the series.
I love Patrick and Dianda so I'm really pleased Seanan has been writing these short stories that are slowly filling in their background, we've already seen them meeting and their first date but this is the story of them becoming an official couple and funnily enough it all starts at Dianda's engagement party to another man! I'm not going to say much more than that because you should just read the story and enjoy it for yourself but this was another sweet one and we get to see quite a few other familiar faces too. It makes me so sad to see a younger version of Simon, back before he managed to screw his life up and ruin his relationship with pretty much everyone he knows. I'm kind of hoping he'll find a way back to himself at some point in the future but after everything he's done I'm not sure how possible that is.
